Your first steps into Counsellor Training: a two-stage introduction

By combining what would typically be two separate courses (often referred to as ‘Level 2 & Level 3) we have been able to reduce fees, avoid repetition, and generally streamline the training process, all whilst maintaining a high standards that prepare you for our Advanced Diploma course.

Here’s how it works:

Join us for Term 1: Sept – Dec

  • (Enrolment for Sep 2021 has now closed, but you can still apply for Level 3 beginning in January!)

Cost: £285                Commitment: 10 Weeks

Academic Level: This course has been written at level 2 (think GCSE 9-4 OR A* – C)

Group size: 8 – 12 (Subject to COVID restrictions)

Prerequisites: None

This first term is a gentle introduction to some of the foundational listening skills that professional counsellors use. You will develop an ability to in order to listen in an attentive and caring way and communicate your understanding effectively. We will also explore the context of counselling, distinguishing it from other listening activities and begin to learn about the incredibly rich and diverse cultures that exist within the world of counselling. Understanding the role of professional bodies in counselling and what it means to be a member of a PSA register are also subjects that we will cover.

As well as a look at skills and context, this course will also introduce the role of self-awareness in counselling by inviting students to consider their own intentions and how this influences our ability to listen fully. Some gentle self-awareness tasks are included, and we enjoy working with colour, lines and shape in a series of creative tasks… time to embrace your inner child!

APL AVAILABLE:

If you have studied a level 2 qualification at another training centre, you may be eligible for accredited prior learning which means that you skip term 1 (see below for terms 2 & 3)

In December, you have a choice:

Stop and enjoy recognition for your learning

If you end in December, you will gain an early exit award equivalent to a level 2 counselling qualification.

You might decide that counselling isn’t for you or  that now isn’t the right time to continue your training.

Continue to terms 2 & 3: Jan – Jun

Cost: £715                  Commitment: 6 months part-time, term-time only

Academic Level: This course has been written at level 3 (think A-levels)

Group size: 8 – 12 (Subject to COVID restrictions)

Prerequisites: You must complete the above 10 week course OR hold a Level 2 from another training centre

Terms two & three will introduce intermediate skills and allow you to consolidate the learning gained from an introductory stage. Students will develop an understanding of the history of counselling theory and explore the different approaches that have been developed over the years.

Further personal-development activities are designed to stretch your self-awareness and you will investigate the importance of self-awareness from both an ethical and theoretical standpoint.

There will be an introduction to ethical practice and its relevance to counselling as a profession, including an examination of equality and diversity issues.

On completion of all units (Sep – Jun), students will be issued with a Certificate in Counselling Skills and will be entitled to apply for the full Diploma in Integrated Relational Counselling.

Important

This course (or any other level 2/3) does not of itself provide professional recognition; you must complete all stages, including a suitable diploma course to be recognised as qualified.
