Re-connecting with our ancestral selves: a rewilding experience for counsellors and therapists – 1 day

£75.00

This workshop is a prelude to the more immersive ‘Re-wilding residential’ that will be released in the near future and is primarily a personal development experience. It seeks to reconnect us without ancestral ‘wild selves’ and to draw on inner wisdom and connection that is buried under deep layers of human domestication and indoctrination into a consumerist culture.

Description

‘Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn’t nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand.’ Aldous Huxley, 1932

The term ‘re-wilding’ has many meanings and in the wake of global warming and mass extinction, it is becoming a crucial part of our vocabulary.

We will spend the day bathing in the woods and exploring what it means to simply ‘be’ alongside the otherness that surrounds us. The workshop draws particular inspiration from the existential school, as well as acknowledging some of the key ideas found within the eco-therapeutic paradigm. We will engage in some of the activities that our ancestors would have, and we will honour the environment and our place within it through gestures of reciprocation; a move away from utilitarianism that is an essential tenet of eco-therapeutic practice.
